AISI  1060 Alloy Steel

  • HOT ROLL T & B WITH SAW-CUT EDGES

DESCRIPTION

1060 plate is a hypoeutectoid carbon steel that is widely used in wear rail and other applications where flame hardening, for surface hardness, is commonly used. Integrity Steel’s 1060 plate is spheroidized annealed which is ideal for subsequent machining, forming, quench-and-temper heat treatment and flame hardening.

ADVANTAGES

1060 – Fast machining ▪ Optimum structure for flame hardening ▪ Optimum structure for forming ▪ Ideal for quench-and-temper heat treatment

TYPICAL ANALYSIS

1060 - Carbon-.55-.65, Manganese - .60-.90, Silicon - .15-.30.

HEAT TREATMENT

May be hardened safely by any of the conventional methods of treatment: direct heating and quenching, flame hardening and induction hardening.

The physical and thermal properties compare favorably to those of similar steels. In flame hardening, the expected hardness range is Rockwell C 60-61 regardless of section size, since only the immediate surface is affected by this process of hardening.

MACHINABILITY

1060 – Rated at 95 as compared to rating of 100 for a one percent carbon tool steel.
